Gibbons hires Ayers to lead Field Hockey program

Cardinal Gibbons High School named Chantal Ayers as the new varsity women’s field hockey head coach on Friday.

Chantal Ayers is an accomplished player and coach with experience at the international, collegiate and high school field hockey levels. Ayers is a native of Avon, CT, (Kingswood- Oxford High School) where she was a standout 3 sport athlete (Field Hockey, Ice Hockey and Lacrosse). In 2015, Chantal was inducted into the Kingswood-Oxford Hall of Fame for all three sports. A 1994 graduate of Holy Cross College (Worcester, MA), Chantal was an All-American in both Field Hockey and Lacrosse. She captained and was named MVP of both teams her junior and senior years. Named Field Hockey Patriot League Player of the year her senior year.

Coach Ayers is committed to growing the game locally at all levels and she clearly shares our school mission of developing young people of faith, service, and leadership.”

After college, she spent 3 years serving as a graduate assistant at Trinity College (Hartford, CT) while training for the US Field Hockey Team. She was the assistant field hockey and lacrosse coach and started the women's Ice Hockey Program.

After a coaching hiatus, Chantal returned to the field in 2004 to be the head field hockey and lacrosse coach at Shaker Heights High School (OH). Along with coaching high school, she also ran a successful girls developmental program for both sports and a high school select lacrosse team that traveled to the east coast to compete throughout the summer.

Currently, she is coaching the boys middle school lacrosse team at St. Mary Magdalene (Apex, NC) and running the field hockey and lacrosse developmental programs for Parish Athletics. Chantal is still playing field hockey and is training for the 2018 US Masters World Cup in Barcelona, Spain. She lives in Apex with her 4 kids.
