Source and Summit
The Second Vatican Council referred to the Liturgy as the "source and summit of the mission and life of the Church." As such, liturgy is the most important thing we do as a Catholic people, and at Cardinal Gibbons liturgy is an integral part of our school life. We gather regularly for the celebration of all-school Mass in Fr. Thomas Price Gymnasium.
Daily Mass is celebrated in Queen of All Saints Chapel each morning at 7:15AM when school is in session. Daily Mass will not be celebrated on days where we have all-school Mass. Students and educators are encouraged to attend Daily Mass, and parents are welcome to attend Daily Mass as well. Due to space limitations, we cannot accommodate parents at all-school Mass.
Masses are also celebrated for athletic teams, clubs and other student groups. Please contact Fr. Tom Duggan if you would like to arrange a Mass for your student group, or would like to submit a Mass intention.
Students are encouraged to serve in various liturgical roles at both all-school Masses and Daily Mass. Please visit our Get Involved page to serve as a Lector or Altar Server at Daily Mass or as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, Usher, Altar Server or in Music Ministry at an all-school Mass.
In 2008, Bishop Michael F. Burbidge officially designated the chapel at Cardinal Gibbons as Queen of All Saints Chapel.
This title places the chapel under the patronage of the Blessed Virgin Mary and also honors the patron saints of the religious communities that have administered Cardinal Gibbons High School in the past.
Mass is celebrated every day at 7:15 a.m. when school is in session, except when an all-school Mass has been scheduled. All are welcome to attend.
The chapel is open throughout the school day for personal prayer. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament takes place on the First Friday of the month.
On holy days of obligation and on special days throughout the school year, the students, faculty and staff of Cardinal Gibbons gather for an all-school Mass.
Special occasions include the Opening School Liturgy at which the Bishop of Raleigh presides with local priests concelebrating, and the annual Catholic Schools Week Mass.
