All service related questions should be directed to the NHS Officer in charge of service

  • What is the service requirement this year?

    • You are required to complete 20 service credits during the academic school year.  At least 12 of these credits must come from NHS sponsored events.

  • How many credits is each service activity?

    • For NHS sponsored events, each activity is worth a predetermined number of credits.  See the 1819 NHS Service Opportunities Spreadsheet on Google Drive for a complete listing of sponsored activities and credits.

    • For outside service events, one hour of service = one service credit.

  • I completed service over the summer, does that count?

    • No.  All service for this academic year should be completed on or after August 2, 2017.

  • When are my credits due?

    • Senior service credits are due May 3, 2019.

    • Junior service credits are due May 17, 2019.

  • How do I keep track of my service credits?

    • Submit your service hours on the NHS Service Log 1819 form

    • Submit your service log throughout the year as you complete activities.

    • If you want to know how many hours you have submitted…. Keep a record please.

  • What information do I need for each activity?

    • All hours must include date(s) and time(s) worked, number of credits earned, a description of the service performed, and the contact information of the person in charge of the activity (this should NOT be a parent or relative.)

  • What happens if I don’t complete my 20 service credits by the assigned date?

    • Failure to complete the required service credits will result in removal from the National Honor Society. No warnings will be given. It is your responsibility to keep up with your service.

  • What constitutes “outside service”?

    • Since these are service hours, you cannot be compensated for any task listed on this sheet, nor should you include any activities that are required for a class or another club/organization.

    • For example, going on your class service trip with Mrs. Penny does NOT count towards NHS service credits.
