Educator Spotlight |  Miguel Casas (World Languages Educator)

1. What do you love most about the subject area you teach?

In the short term, I love how it can expand the students’ minds by learning about other cultures and making language connections that sometimes even reveal aspects of English to them. In the long term, I love how many of them end up speaking the language fluently; some are now Spanish teachers and/or are living in Spanish-speaking countries.

2. How long have you been in the teaching profession?

26 years and change.

3. What profession would you have chosen if you were not a teacher?

I was actually a newspaper reporter before I became a teacher, so I would probably still be writing for some sort of journalistic outlet.

4. What makes Gibbons a unique/different place?

This could easily be the prompt for a long essay, but I’m just going to say the friendly, welcoming atmosphere and the enhanced opportunities to make connections with the students.

5. What is your favorite Gibbons tradition?

The mid-winter break in February.
