NCHSAA Commissioner Que Tucker recently presented Cardinal Gibbons with its fourth straight Wells Fargo state cup, which is awarded yearly to the top overall athletics program in each classification.

During the 2021-2022 school year, Gibbons won four state championships, taking home titles in football, cheerleading, women’s soccer, and women’s lacrosse. The Crusaders were state runner-up in women’s golf.

Gibbons also racked up Wells Fargo points thanks to top-eight finishes in the following sports: women’s and men’s cross country, women’s golf, men’s lacrosse, men’s tennis, and women’s volleyball.

Because of these athletic feats, Gibbons won its 13th Wells Fargo state cup over the last 17 years, including its fourth straight in 4A! The Crusaders totaled 575 points, well ahead of second-place Marvin Ridge, which had 475.

Congratulations to our coaches, student-athletes, and administrators on this outstanding accomplishment.
