Head of School Jeff Bell shared the following remarks about Dean Monroe during the annual Stewardship Mass.

It is impossible to encapsulate Dean Monroe’s impact on Cardinal Gibbons. It is incalculable, undefinable. I would say that I am amazed by the universal acclaim and admiration that he garners from every corner of the Cardinal Gibbons community, except that, within hours of knowing Dean, you know you are in the presence of someone who is deeply engaging, spiritual, generous, and wise.

Athletic Director Tonya Holmes says: “Dean Monroe is my hero! He exudes compassion, integrity, and devotion in all things that he does… he is a Christ-filled leader that I’m so blessed to have crossed paths with!”

I don’t know a single person who doesn’t feel that way about Dean.

Dean began his tenure at the Western Boulevard campus. When he arrived, we had a very small and relatively unsuccessful athletic program. By the end of his time as the Athletic Director, we had one of the best athletic programs in the state of North Carolina. Under Dean’s direction, Gibbons started many new sports at the school, including football and men’s and women’s lacrosse, and we won more than 100 state championships.

Football coach Steven Wright says about Dean: “Dean is the epitome of a servant-leader. I don't know that anyone genuinely cares for our athletes and coaches more than Dean Monroe. God chose Dean and his style of leadership to build one of the most successful athletic programs in the state of North Carolina and one of the most respected athletic programs on the east coast over these last 30 years. Dean has become synonymous with Cardinal Gibbons, and rightly so.”

Dean’s deep knowledge of the school and its culture have been incredible assets in his new role as Assistant Head of School for Mission. He is trustworthy, highly intelligent, and respected by all who enter his orbit. I am proud to call him a colleague and a friend.

We are truly blessed to have had Dean Monroe at Cardinal Gibbons for 30 years. Cardinal Gibbons would not be nearly as successful if not for his presence here, and his impact will be felt for years to come.

Words cannot express our gratitude for the work that Dean has done. Thank you, Dean!
