The Office of Communications partners with departments throughout the school to disseminate timely and relevant information to the entire Gibbons community. Through communication planning, mass emails and storytelling, the office seeks to enhance our audience’s understanding of the school’s mission and the educational experience it provides to its families.

In communicating with our Gibbons family, the top priority for the Office of Communications is to ensure that our messages are clear, concise, consistent, and transparent. To help accomplish that, we recently launched a new communications initiative which will provide both a centralized news source and a mobile one, as well as offer several different information platforms. The timeline for each platform varies, but ranges from 3-10 days from submission to completion. To start, all you need to do is fill out the form below.
School Updates (3-5 days)
School Updates is a centralized source for school news. Content is intended to inform families of school priorities, upcoming events, activities, and programs.
Additionally, we will send a School Updates e-newsletter to students, parents, and educators on Monday/Friday evening twice a month. The content ultimately will live on the School Updates webpage. Departments interested in including a message in School Updates e-newsletter are asked to submit their information 3-5 days in advance to be considered for inclusion in the upcoming issue of the e-newsletter.
Our online school calendar is the primary calendar of events for our school, given the ever-changing nature due to COVID-19 impacts on our school events and scheduling, and will be the first place we publish any updates, changes, cancellations or new events. Gibbons Educators who would like to see their program or area events on the online school calendar should partner with the Office of Communications to ensure the accuracy, consistency and reliability of our calendar, especially now that it features prominently in our new school Gibbons App.
The Gibbons App
The Gibbons App is a mobile-friendly version of the information on our website, featuring School Updates and the School Calendar, as well as an Athletics team section, useful links to key information like our Reopening Plan and Powerschool, a login feature to allow access to our school directory, and much more!
Search "Cardinal Gibbons HS NC" in the iOS App Store or the Google Play Store and then select “Download”. Login is not required. See the Gibbons App Update post for details and updates as the app rolls out.
Digital Signage (3-5 days)
In-school digital signage will feature information useful to our school community, and will reflect the latest information on our school calendar. Signage will also feature digital engagement opportunities in partnership with our different departments and areas, including athletics, co-curricular, academics and college counseling, to name just a few. Because we have doubled our in-school signage over the summer of 2020, digital engagement opportunities for all areas will continue to increase.
Branding/Logo (3-5 days)
The Office of Communications coordinates the use and creation of all Gibbons-affiliated logos, word marks and related to the Gibbons Branding initiative launched in 2019. Gibbons Educators who want to use or adapt any Gibbons logos should partner with the Office of Communications to ensure the accuracy, consistency and reliability of our branding by using the logo request form on the Branding web page.
Email Planning (5-7 days)
We partner with departments and educators to plan communication and mass emails for the school community (all students, parents, and educators).
A mass email must meet at least one of the following criteria:
Deemed essential by the Head of School or an Assistant Principal.
Critical, time-sensitive, and/or germane to the school’s mission.
Address a recommended or required action that applies to the entire school community.
Flyers, posters, and brochures (7-10 days)
We partner with departments and educators to plan and design printed material, taking the projects from conception to completion.
Strategic Communication and Podcasts (5-7 days)
The Office of Communications also focuses on longer stories that highlight the life and work of the school’s educators and students and manages the school's key digital channels on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. It also plans and develops the school’s videos as well as podcasts that feature interviews with Gibbons educators and students that provide insight into the daily life of our school.
