Cardinal Gibbons Band Program
The Cardinal Gibbons Band Program provides students the opportunity to explore the genres of Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Pep Band and Chamber Music in a collaborative and supportive atmosphere. The program seeks to foster individual interests in conjunction with the full ensemble, while educating students in the mediums of self-confidence and self-discipline.

2019 - 2020 Performances
The Wind Ensemble performs as a Pep Band at all Friday Home Football games:
* August 30th (First Home Game)
* September 13th (Family Football Night)
* September 27th (Homecoming)
* October 18th (Middle School Band Night)
* November 1st (Gibbons Senior Night)
* November 8th & 15th (1st & 2nd Round Playoff Games)
Both Bands perform three required Sunday formal concerts each year:
* December 8th, 2019 - Br. Michel Bettigole Christmas Music Festival
* February 9th, 2020 - St. Francis Jazz & Pop Music Festival
* April 26th, 2020 - Sisters of Notre Dame Spring Music Festival
The Wind Ensemble marches as a Pep Band in the Raleigh St. Patrick's Parade:
* March 14th, 2020 - Saturday Parade will be 9 - 11:30am
Both Bands participates in a Spring Trip each year:

The Wind Ensemble performs at our Graduation Ceremony:
* May 24th, 2020 - Sunday from 11am to 4pm

Placement Audition
Placement auditions are an opportunity for incoming students to get to know the Mr. Cashin, the band class offerings, and learn about all potential music opportunities at Cardinal Gibbons.
Auditions are for placement in one of the two band classes, not for whether you will be accepted into the band program. At Gibbons, Band is a family and we want you to be a part of ours!
Band Placement Audition Date: Saturday, February 8th, 2020 from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm in the Band Room #135
Please RSVP to Mr. Cashin at mcashin@cghsnc.org so we can plan for your arrival.
Students may play any major scales that they know, and two small excerpts of music from a recent band concert. Make-up auditions are by appointment only.
The deferment policy for Health/PE applies.
Symphonic Band Class
Course: Symphonic Band* (Honors Option)
Grade Level(s): 9-12; Pre-requisites: None; Credit: 1
Symphonic Band is a course for students with no prior band experience, students who have been out of a band class for one or more years, or students seeking a fundamental review on their instruments. Students will learn the fundamental concepts of playing a specific instrument, reading music and music theory. Students will prepare to perform their own material, and some material with the Wind Ensemble on major concerts. Students should provide their own instruments unless other arrangements are made with the instructor.
Wind Ensemble Class
Course: Wind Ensemble* (Honors Option)
Grade Level(s): 9-12
Pre-requisites: Symphonic Band or teacher recommendation
Credit: 1
Wind Ensemble is a course for students who have met the standards for Symphonic Band. Members will learn aspects of playing an instrument, including reading music, completion of a music theory book each semester, and performing various wind band literature (Wind Ensemble, Pep Band, Jazz Band and Small Ensemble). Concerts, Gibbons home football games, specified community parades and home practice are required. Students should provide their own instruments unless other arrangements are made with the instructor.

Members of the Cardinal Gibbons High School band have received numerous honors and awards including All-State Orchestra, All-State Band, All-District Jazz Band, and the NCAIS Honor Band. Below are some of our more recent accolades:
Congratulations to Genevieve Bottone (Sophomore - French Horn) on being accepted to the 2019 NC Symphony Play with the Pros on March 25 at Koka Booth Ampitheatre in Cary, NC.
Congratulations to Maddie Robeson (Sophomore - Flute), Samantha Robeson (Sophomore - Horn) and Casey Cheatham (Sophomore - Snare) on placing 8th Chair, 4th Chair and 1st Chair, respectably, in the NC Central All-District 9 - 10 Honor Band at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on January 26.
Congratulations to Casey Cheatham (Sophomore - Drum Set) on placing 2nd Chair in the NC Central Region Jazz Band on January 19 in Cary, NC.
Congratulations to Alexander Waguespack (Junior - Alto Sax) on placing in the University of North Carolina at Greensboro on February 16.

Here are the details of our Friday, October 18th Middle School Band Night:
Attire: School or Band T-Shirt and Jeans (Sweatshirt if they are cold).
4:45-5 pm: Drop Off at CG Band Room.
5:00-5:30 pm: Kids/Parents can eat and socialize with our kids/parents! The meal is a potluck!
5:30-6 pm: Middle School kids Practice with our HS Student Leaders on the Music
6-6:30 pm: Full band practices together; MS Percussion Students play with the Drum Line!
6:30-6:45 pm: March to stadium, playing in parking lot for tailgating
7:00 pm: National anthem performance with all students
7:05-8:30 pm (Approximate): Perform and/or hang out in the stands with our band as we cheer on the football team!
8:30-8:45 pm (Approximate): MS kids perform or watch halftime performance with Cardinal Gibbons Band and Drum Line
8:45-9:15 pm: Students are picked up by parents at Cardinal Gibbons!
Jazz/Pop Festival for Middle School Bands!
Middle School Band Programs are able to perform on the Cardinal Gibbons Jazz Festival, which takes place in the Mainstage Theatre on our campus. This is a unique opportunity for current middle school students to perform in a high school auditorium and in a professional music setting!

We will study fundamentals, chorales, small group and full group band pieces. Sections will have their own instructor for the week of camp.
Equipment: Students must provide their own instrument, with exceptions made on a case-by-case basis. Percussionists should bring a pair of SD-1 General Drum Sticks by Vic Firth.
Camp with conclude with a short performance for parents on the final day of camp at 3:00 pm
