Athletic Hall of Fame 2024: Shannon Boyle '03
Golf
Shannon Boyle, a 2003 alumna, was a trailblazer as a student-athlete at Cardinal Gibbons. With no girls' golf team available, Shannon joined the boys' team during her sophomore year, becoming a three-time letter winner and scholar-athlete.
Shannon’s passion for golf began in her childhood, playing with her father at their home course in New Jersey. Together, they won the Low Gross trophy in a Father-Daughter championship, and she competed on two Junior Inter-City teams.
This passion carried over when her family moved to North Carolina. In 2001, as a player for Cardinal Gibbons, Shannon won the Greensboro Day School Girls Invitational, the Charles Tilghman Junior Championship, and qualified for the U.S. Golf Association Girls’ Junior. She also achieved four top-10 finishes in American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) events as a junior and three more as a rising senior.
In 2002, Shannon was crowned champion at the Kiawah Island International Junior Golf Tournament and represented the “Carolinas Team” in matches against Virginia and Maryland teams.
Her outstanding performance on the course and in the classroom earned her a golf scholarship to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. There, she captained the Women’s Golf Team and graduated in 2007 from the Kenan-Flagler Business School.
While at UNC, Shannon was named to the National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Team twice and earned a spot on the ACC Honor Roll for eight consecutive semesters. She received the UNC Athletic Director’s Scholar-Athlete Award, competed in the 2005 U.S. Women’s Amateur, and participated in the Carolina Leadership Academy for student-athletes.
Shannon began her career at Morgan Stanley Private Wealth Management in 2007, where she has spent 16 years at the firm’s global headquarters in New York City. While working full-time, she earned her MBA from NYU’s Stern School of Business. As a private wealth advisor, Shannon was recognized by Forbes Magazine as one of “America’s Top Next-Generation Wealth Advisors” in both 2017 and 2018.
She continues to compete in amateur golf tournaments nationwide and holds leadership roles in two golf organizations that promote the sport for women and young people. Shannon lives in New York City with her husband and son.
