Athletic Hall of Fame 2022: Kathryn (Katie) Kabbes ’08

The school record holder for career kills, career aces, and single-season kills, Katie helped lead the Crusaders volleyball team to four consecutive conference championships and three straight State Championships.

During her time at Gibbons, Katie was named both the News & Observer Volleyball Player of the Year and NCHSAA 2A Championship Most Outstanding Player twice. She was also a two-time North Carolina Gatorade Player of the Year. In 2006, she earned the title of Mid-State Conference Player of the Year. 

A finalist for PrepVolleyball.com Junior and Senior National Player of the Year honors, she was selected as an American Volleyball Coaches Association High School Senior All-American and Volleyball Magazine’s First Team All-American. 

Katie was the school’s Co-Female Athlete of the Year during her senior year at Gibbons. She went on to become a member of Penn State University’s 2008, 2009, and 2010 NCAA national championship teams.  

After earning her bachelor’s degree from Penn State, she serves as an account executive at Toast.
