Austin Hardy poses with Mike Curato

Austin Hardy’s selection as Cardinal Gibbons Male Athlete of the Year marked the culmination of an extraordinary high school career defined by excellence, leadership, and a deep commitment to his teammates. A member of the Class of 2010, Austin distinguished himself as a rare dual-sport standout in both lacrosse and soccer, leaving a lasting mark on the Gibbons athletic tradition.

Austin became one of the lacrosse program’s all-time leading scorers—an impressive achievement for a midfielder position. A three-year varsity letter winner in both sports, he was named the Lacrosse MVP as a senior.

Austin led the lacrosse program to two State Championship appearances. As a junior, he received All-State Second Team honors and guided the team to the state finals, achieving a top 5 ranking across all classifications in the state.

During his senior season, he propelled the team to an impressive record of 19 wins and just 1 loss, earning a number 2 ranking in the state and a coveted spot on the First Team All-State.

As an upperclassman, Austin led his lacrosse and soccer teams through successful seasons, achieving four state championship appearances and winning two soccer championship titles.

Off the field, Austin excelled academically and was a member of the school’s executive student council.

Following graduation, Austin chose a different calling - pursuing service to his country over collegiate athletics. At UNC-Chapel Hill, he participated in the ROTC program and graduated in 2014 before being commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps.

Three years later, he earned his wings in flight school, trained as a Huey helicopter pilot, and joined his first operational squadron.

During his military career, Austin deployed twice to the Indo-Pacific Area of Responsibility. After four and a half years of squadron service, he was selected as Air Officer for the 1st Reconnaissance Battalion and later earned selection into Marine Special Operations Command.

In 2025, he deployed as Air Officer for the Special Operations Task Force–Philippines and is currently stationed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Austin Hardy’s legacy at Cardinal Gibbons is measured not only by championships and accolades, but by the character, leadership, and selfless service he continues to embody—proving that the lessons learned on the field can shape a life of purpose far beyond it.
