Soccer

By the time Morgan Reid graduated in 2014, she had been named Cardinal Gibbons’ Female Athlete of the Year twice and finished her high school soccer career with an impressive 58 goals and 50 assists. In addition to her dominance on the soccer field, she was a four-year letterwinner in basketball, becoming only the 10th player in school history to reach 1,000 career points.
Morgan’s soccer success began as a freshman when she joined the varsity team and played a key role in securing the 3A state runner-up title for Cardinal Gibbons. As a sophomore, she helped lead the team to the state semifinals, finishing the season with 13 wins, 1 loss, and 2 ties.
In her junior year, Morgan and teammate Christina Gibbons propelled the team to a state championship. She set the tone early, scoring within the first two minutes of the title match to help secure the victory.
As a senior and team captain, Morgan led the Crusaders to a co-conference championship and was named the 2014 North Carolina Gatorade Soccer Player of the Year, earning recognition as the top player in the South Atlantic Region.
Morgan continued her career at Duke University, where she was a standout player for the Blue Devils. A near-permanent fixture in the starting lineup, she helped guide the top-five Division I program to multiple College Cup playoffs, including two Final Four appearances.
Her leadership was instrumental in Duke’s run to the fourth NCAA College Cup in program history. As a senior starter, she helped the Blue Devils advance through five NCAA Tournament games without conceding a single goal—a first in school history.
Beyond the field, Morgan excelled academically, earning four selections to the ACC Honor Roll while pursuing a degree in evolutionary anthropology as a pre-med student.
In her final semester at Duke, she and five teammates were drafted into the 2018 National Women’s Soccer League—an achievement that set a record for the most draft selections from a single university.
Morgan began her professional career with the North Carolina Courage before transferring to the Orlando Pride. She later retired due to injury.
In the fall of 2024, Morgan and her husband welcomed their daughter. She now works in real estate and enjoys spending time with her family.
Morgan Reid’s impact on North Carolina soccer is undeniable. Her legacy as a player, leader, and role model continues to inspire future generations of athletes.
