Buckley is in his 6th year as the head coach of Cardinal Gibbons, after taking over for Mike Curatolo who built the Gibbons program over a 17 year career.

"My favorite aspects of being a coach at Cardinal Gibbons are the opportunity to work with so many driven student-athletes, and the overwhelming support of our administration and parents. It is a special place to work and compete."

In his first five years, Buckley has led the Crusaders to three state championships and a record of 90-15, bringing his career coaching record at the high school level to 101-21.  In all five years his teams have made it to the Eastern Conference finals.  In that same time span, fourteen players have received All-American honors and nineteen players have continued their lacrosse careers at the Division 1, 2 or 3 level.  More importantly, the team has participated in team service projects each year.

  • Coach

Jim Ryan enters his fifth year coaching and teaching at Gibbons. He has his bachelor’s degree in Comparative Literature from Montclair State University and his Master’s degree in English from East Carolina University. For twelve years he was a college basketball coach at the division one level with stops at Middle Tennessee State, UNC Asheville, and the junior varsity program at UNC Chapel Hill. He played and later was an assistant coach for the lacrosse program at Essex Catholic High School in Newark, NJ, and he currently is the head varsity coach for the Gibbons boys’ basketball team and teaches eleventh grade English.
