Alma Mater

The word 'nostalgia' comes from the Greek word literally meaning 'the pain from an old wound.' This ache is what we alumni feel for our alma mater, our nourishing mother. Cardinal Gibbons is where we grew up, where we fell in love, where we found our best friends. We sing it at football games, soccer games, weddings, and even funerals. We still sing it every year at graduation. We hope that every Gibbons graduate loves their alma mater so much, that pain, that ache makes them break into song.

Alma Mater, we salute thee.

Alma Mater, school we love.

Make us worthy of thy lofty standards

and thy noble teaching prove.

Cheer for Gibbons, High School of Fame!

Chant her praises, great is her name.

Raise her colors, float them on high

While singing, “Hail to the High School we love.”

Alma Mater, Home of Wisdom

Alma Mater, Shrine of Truth

We will ever as thy loyal children

Bless the Mother of our Youth.

Cheer for Gibbons, High School of Fame!

Chant her praises, great is her name.

Raise her colors, float them on high

While singing, “Hail to the High School we love.”
