Freshman Welcome Day

#cgFWD19 Photo Slideshow

Welcome, incoming freshmen!

We will have over 500 student volunteers on campus bubbling over with excitement to meet the newest members of our school! Not only will we be excited, but we will make sure that our newest students are absolutely cared for, and that they feel the Gibbons spirit.

When:  9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

What to wear: Freshmen should wear your most comfortable form of dress code (white polo, khaki shorts, sneakers) since we will play some games and be super active.

What to bring: Only yourself, ready to meet other people! (No need for bags of any kind today.)

Rough Outline of the Day
  • Welcome Freshmen at their cars
  • All-class Mass
  • Games
  • Lunch. We will provide lunch and great people to sit with.
  • Small Groups. "Red Shirt Freshmen" meet with freshmen in small groups in classrooms and go over things from practicing unlocking a combination lock to finding a bathroom.
  • Tours. NHS students take their freshmen to every classroom, meet every teacher and tell them all about Gibbons.

  • Closing Ceremony

Ways to Engage

If you'd like to apply to Gibbons, find out how on our Apply page.

Please see the Gibbons Arts page for details on our diverse range of arts programs.

Cardinal Gibbons High School has a robust and thriving arts program, with dozens of classes and co-curricular opportunities in music, dance, visual arts and theater.

If you have further questions about any of our programs, please contact the program director via their email address, found on the respective program's page.

Please see the Gibbons Athletics page for details on all our athletics programs.

Cardinal Gibbons High School's athletics program focuses on excellence and living out our mission, on and off the court and field.

Gibbons fields teams in over a dozen sports, on both the JV and varsity levels, and competes at the 4A classification in the Cap7 conference, with our neighbors and friends from Broughton, Enloe, Leesville Road, Millbrook, Sanderson, and Southeast Raleigh high schools.

If you have further questions about any of our programs, please contact the coach via their email address, found on the respective team's page.

Please see the Gibbons Co-Curricular page for details on all our co-curricular programs.

Cardinal Gibbons High School believes that what happens before and after school is not "extra" at all, so we call our engagement opportunities "co-curricular" and not "extracurricular".

Gibbons educators and students collaborate on a incredible range of activities covering the entire spectrum of potential student interests. Maybe your student is into the arts or media studies, or maybe they are into gaming (of all kinds!), or maybe they may want to build robots, or fly drones. Do they want to go deeper into academic topics, and explore books and writing, or learn (and do!) more with physics, biology or math? Do they want to explore their faith, and live out our mission to serve our Church and community?

At Gibbons, all this -- and much more! -- is available through our co-curricular programs.

If you have further questions about any of our programs, please contact the moderator via their email address, found on the respective program page.

Please visit our Gibbons Education home page for more details on what sets our educators and a Gibbons education apart.
A Cardinal Gibbons High School education will challenge each student to achieve their full potential, and prepare every student for college and beyond.

Faith and Ministry

Please see the Faith & Ministry home page for more details on our many faith-based programs.

At Cardinal Gibbons High School, our Catholic faith is the foundation for the formation of each of our students.

Every student serves our community through our Outreach program at least once a year and many students volunteer for one of the various service organizations on campus. Every student has an opportunity to attend a retreat hosted by our Retreats program. And all students take theology classes, attend Mass and can volunteer for our ministry programs.

Gibbons Alumni

GIbbons Parent Experience

At Gibbons, parent engagement is just as important as student engagement.

The Cardinal Gibbons Fund
