Cardinal Gibbons High School is seeking a dependable and engaging Long-Term Substitute Teacher for Spanish to support our World Languages Department.
The primary responsibility of this position will be teaching one Spanish 2 class, which meets every other school day. Unlike a traditional substitute assignment, this individual will take an active role in the classroom, including instruction, student support, grading, and maintaining continuity of learning throughout the assignment. Minimum time commitment is 2 hours per day every other day.
The selected candidate may also have opportunities to provide substitute coverage for additional classes, periods, or school days as needed.
Primary Responsibilities
- Teach an assigned 4th-period Spanish course every other school day.
- Deliver Spanish instruction and support students in developing their language skills.
- Grade assignments, assessments, and other student work associated with the assigned course.
- Maintain accurate student records and communicate student progress or concerns as appropriate.
- Follow established curriculum, lesson plans, and departmental expectations.
- Provide a positive, structured, and engaging classroom environment.
- Manage classroom behavior in accordance with Cardinal Gibbons expectations.
- Collaborate with members of the World Languages Department and school administration.
- Provide substitute coverage for other classes or periods when available and as needed.
Qualifications
- Spanish language experience and proficiency required.
- Ability to confidently teach and support high school students in Spanish.
- Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills.
- Dependable and able to maintain a consistent schedule for the duration of the assignment.
- Previous teaching, tutoring, substitute teaching, or experience working with high school students preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Teaching license or certification is a plus but not required.
Schedule
This position requires consistent availability for an assigned 4th-period Spanish class that meets every other school day. Additional substitute teaching opportunities may be available on other days or during other class periods based on school needs and the candidate’s availability.
