AUDITION INFORMATION

ABOUT THE SHOW:

Inspired by the twisted genius of Roald Dahl, the Tony Award-winning Matilda,The Musical revels in the anarchy of childhood, the power of imagination and the inspiring story of a girl who dreams of a better life. Packed with high-energy dance numbers, catchy songs and subversive humor, Matilda is a joyous, subversive romp. 

IMPORTANT DATES:
We will be holding an audition information meeting for those interested in auditioning for Matilda on Tuesday, November 14th from 3:15-3:45 pm in the Studio Theater.


Vocal Auditions: Tuesday, November 28, 3:20-6:00 pm (by appointment) in the Mainstage Theater. Additional date will be added if necessary. 

Dance Auditions: Thursday, November 30, 3:30-6:00 pm in the Studio Theater and Lower Dance Studio

Callbacks: December 4-8 from 3:30-6:00 pm in the Studio Theater.  Callback lists and information will be posted here; we will announce callback lists and cast list postings via the Gibbons Drama Instagram.

Rehearsals: Rehearsals will begin on January 4 and will generally be held weekdays after school from 3:30-6:00 pm and on occasional Saturday afternoons from 1:00-5:00 pm.

Production Week Rehearsal Schedule:

  • Saturday, March 2: 10:00 am -- 5:00 pm
  • Saturday, March 9: 9:30 am -- 6:00 pm
  • Monday, March 11 through Thursday, March 14: 3:15 pm--8:30 pm

Performances Dates: March 15, 16, 21, 22 @ 7:00 pm; March 23 @ 2:30 & 7:00 pm

ABOUT THE ROLES\CASTING:

Auditions are open to all Gibbons students. We encourage actors of any ethnicity, identity, ability or experience to audition for any role.  If the production or script requires strict adherence to any characteristics, those will be designated in the character descriptions.

If you require any specific accommodations to audition, please contact production director Mr. Kevin Ferguson to make those arrangements.

IMPORTANT:  All students cast in this production are required to be off-book (lyrics and basic melody) for all musical numbers in the show to which they are assigned upon return from Christmas break. The production team reserves the right to terminate the involvement of any cast member not meeting this expectation.

MATILDA CHARACTER & CASTING BREAKDOWN

ABOUT THE AUDITIONS:

All those auditioning for Matilda are required to attend both the Vocal and Dance calls. 

Vocal Auditions: Prepare 16 bars (or one verse and chorus, approximately) of a song from a contemporary musical that best highlights your voice. Those auditioning should provide their own sheet music with proper piano accompaniment.  A piano accompanist will be provided.

Dance Auditions:  Actors will be taught several short dance combinations, based on ability and experience.  Please wear comfortable clothing suitable for movement.   

Callbacks will consist of reading and singing excerpts from the show.
