When will classes resume on campus?
We will make an announcement on this on July 15. This decision will be based on the directives of Governor Cooper and the Diocese, as well as our best judgment on how to ensure the safety and health of our students, faculty, staff and families.
What if I need to visit campus?Starting Monday, July 6, the Gibbons campus will be open to people having specific business needs they must address at school. In this plan we are following CDC health and safety guidelines, as well as guidance from our local governments.
If you visit the campus, you must wear a face mask, implement social distancing, and wash hands frequently. All visitors must park and enter through the front lot. We will take your temperature as you enter the building.
A medical screening survey will be added for students’ routine arrivals on campus in the fall (as we will be able), but for the next few months we will take temperature readings for all one-off visits. Visitors must have a temperature less than 100.4 to be admitted to campus. Please stay home if you are sick.
Thank you for your participation and patience as we implement these practices to keep our Gibbons community healthy.
Avoiding panic and rumors
We are very aware that anxiety can be heightened during situations like the current one, and we want to be sure to separate fact from rumor by relying on our healthcare experts and the local, state and federal agencies that are responsible for guiding us.
As we work with members of our community to meet the challenges ahead, we are committed to keeping the channels of communication open and doing all we reasonably can to ensure the health, safety and well-being of our students, faculty and staff.
What conditions would allow Gibbons to open?
Gibbons will follow all Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and N.C. Department of Health and Human Services (NCHHS) guidelines for opening.
What learning options are you considering for 2020-2021?
Gibbons has a strong preference for a return to campus but we are planning distance learning as a contingency.
What will happen if someone in the school community is exposed to COVID or has symptoms?
That person will be isolated and referred to a physician. We also will follow all CDC and NCHHS protocols to send exposed individuals home, and sanitize any at-risk areas of the school. Additionally, we will notify the community as well as employ contact tracing for students and staff who were in close proximity to the infected person.
