World Languages

The intention of the World Languages Department at Cardinal Gibbons is to instill in students a love for language, and to empower them with the mastery of a second language as an instrument of empathy, communication and learning for life. This will be accomplished by reading, writing, speaking and listening in the target language.

Currently, courses in French, Latin and Spanish are offered as part of the curriculum. In each language, courses range from the introductory level to Advanced Placement which allows students to take the same language every year throughout their high school career.

In each of the three languages, the courses are sequential in nature with seamless transitions from one level to the next due to the curriculum, which follows the National Standards, and the collaborative spirit of the teacher.

Spanish IV students ended our Music/Dance Unit by learning the Jarabe Tapatió, otherwise known as the Mexican Hat Dance.

Spanish III students enjoying a lively game of Spanish Scrabble.
"I love to work with my partner or alone on Google Classroom in Spanish class," said sophomore Bailey Cullen.

On Friday, March 10th, Middle School World Language Teachers were treated to a mass, breakfast and open house in their honor at Cardinal Gibbons High School. We had fun thanking them for all that they do to prepare our Gibbons students for World Languages!
