Find out what we're all about

The STARS program is Cardinal Gibbons' unique, student-led IT support group.

Many dedicated students give of their time and talent to help their peers with computer issues big and small. Thanks to our status as a Lenovo certified repair center we are able to give our students the opportunity to work on their peers' laptops replacing everything from a screen to the main logic board.

Thanks to our students working at the STARS desk, located just outside the library before school, after school, and during lunch periods, we are able to offer instant support to all student whenever they need computer help at school.

Laptop Summer Refresh

Every laptop at Cardinal Gibbons will be getting a remote refresh to get it ready for a well-deserved break this summer!

The refresh will delete ALL information saved on the desktop of every laptop.

Students: you must backup your OWN files to either OneDrive, Google or a flash drive if you want to keep them.

We have already backed up student files until March 13 (the day we began distance learning), but we do not have your files saved after that date.

We will update laptops remotely according to the following schedule.

Once they backup their files, all students need to do to get the remote refresh started is: plug in, turn on, and restart. See below for more details.

Class of 2021 - Grade 11

June 2 beginning at 10 a.m.

Class of 2022 - Grade 10

The details, FAQ-style

We've never done this before so we thank everyone for their patience, help and understanding, in advance!

What do I need to do to get ready?

Make sure you save ANYTHING you want to keep to either OneDrive, Google or a flash drive.

Back up any and all files you saved on your laptop directly (i.e., not in any cloud-based storage) after March 13 (the day we began distance learning).

You can save your files using:

  1. OneDrive
  2. Google
  3. Flash drive

Also, it's a good idea to:

  1. Log into OneDrive to see all files from before March 13.
  2. Open the Windows Company Portal app on your laptop to install OneDrive.

STARS has got the refresh covered but YOU have to get your files saved!

If something goes wrong during this process, please take a deep breath and then email STARS.

How long will this take?

We will begin updating at 10 a.m. but it will take time to go through the process. Please plan not to use your laptop for at least two hours.

What if I'm not awake at 10 a.m., because it's like, summer?

You can stay in bed, but just wake up your laptop, plug it in, and then go back to bed. Okay, jokes aside, if you actually forget or really do oversleep, the next time your laptop connects to the internet, it will begin the refresh process automatically.

What if I hate the internet so it can't refresh?

Oh, a tricky one, eh? Well, what will happen is that the next time your laptop tries to connect on campus, you won't have internet or any files. So, y'know, we don't recommend that.

My laptop is kinda...broken. What do I do now?

We repeat: please take a deep breath and then email STARS.
