The Gibbons community will join together the morning of April 14 in service to others and gather that night for the Spring Social.
For it is in giving that we receive — Saint Francis of Assisi
That is the message Gibbons families, students, and educators will spread as they spend the morning of April 14th in service to others. From donating blood to feeding the homeless to maintaining a home and beautifying grounds, they will open their hearts and offer their help to non-profit groups throughout the Triangle. At night, they will gather for the Spring Social, an evening of fun, food, and fellowship.
“This year’s social has a special theme: “Consider it All JOY, which coincides with this year’s CGFA message: Find the JOY in Your JOurneY,” said Gibbons Parent Michelle Yousik.
This is the third year the Cardinal Gibbons community has come together for Gibbons Gathers, a day of service and celebration, sponsored by the Cardinal Gibbons Family Association (CGFA). During the morning, members of the Gibbons community will participate in 15 different service opportunities.
This year, there will be more than 400 slots for volunteering, 100 more than were offered last year, according to CGFA. “We are so excited to see service opportunities at Gibbons continue to grow,” said Laura Grelck '87 who is organizing the morning service activities with fellow Gibbons parent Kim Eyerman. The success and growth of the Gibbons Family Day of Service has inspired others.
“When Gibbons Alumni learned parents were committing to a day of service,” said Associate Director of Alumni Advancement Susan Leigh '87, “they expressed interest in being involved.” Gibbons Alumni requested a service opportunity similar to what Gibbons families were doing to carry out the mission of their alma mater. Leigh partnered with the directors of Gibbons Outreach – Agnes Penny and Gary Meyerl ’82 – to have a service site for Gibbons Alumni. They will be working on a beautification project at Beginning and Beyond Child Development Center in Raleigh.
Gibbons Gathers concludes with the annual Spring Social, which is “a way for Gibbons parents to celebrate the JOY in our Gibbons journey…” said Michelle Yousik. She and fellow Gibbons parent Karen Migdal are working on the social, which will take place from 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm at the North Carolina Museum of Art, West Wing.
“This year’s social has a special theme: “Consider it All JOY, which coincides with this year’s CGFA message: Find the JOY in Your JOurneY,” said Yousik. “We want everyone to be joyful in all we do for God and one another. On Saturday evening, April 14th, the CGHS community of parents, educators, and friends will come together to joyfully celebrate our faith, service and faith-filled community.”
