July 22, 2020
Dear Cardinal Gibbons Family,
I hope this message finds you safe and healthy. Thank you to all the parents who have participated in the meetings with me and other administrators over the past few weeks. It has been especially helpful to hear your concerns and perspectives as we navigate through this challenging moment.
Each day as things shift and change based on the data and information that we receive from state and local officials as well as the diocese, we make adjustments and refinements to our plans for the upcoming year. As you know, many of the large public districts in our area as well as the surrounding areas, have opted into remote learning for the start of school. Cardinal Gibbons is still planning to open with the hybrid option that we presented to you last week. Our position will not change so long as we feel confident that we can provide a safe environment for our students and educators.
I want to acknowledge the bravery and dedication of our educators. This is an incredibly stressful time to be in a school, and some of our educators are rightfully anxious about returning to Gibbons. Their commitment to providing a safe and academically engaging environment for students and adults alike is nothing short of a testament to their dedication to and love for our students, our families, and the mission of our school. I have nothing but profound gratitude and respect for our unbelievable educators and their willingness to consider all the options in this unprecedented context. Gibbons is blessed to have such caring people in our community.
There are two forms that we’d like you to complete to help us with our planning. Both need to be completed by July 27. First, if your student(s) is planning for remote learning, can you please fill out the Student Academic Plan Change form. Please note that if you elect to switch from remote to hybrid or vice versa at some point during the year, we are able to accommodate that request if we are provided with at least two days notice to Registrar Kendra Burns.
Second, Ms. Barkan and her team continue to work on the Green/Gold groups and need your input. Please complete the Carpool Group Request form so that they can have as much information as possible as they finish this complex task.
Each day that I come to Gibbons, my faith in the school and in this community is deepened and enriched. This is such a hard time for so many people here, and yet the kindness and genuine care that this community has expressed to one another is impressive, authentic, and meaningful. Gibbons truly is a special place and will continue to be as we weather these storms together.
Looking forward to seeing you soon.
