Gibbons Review Update - September 21
Office of Communications

We hope you are all staying healthy and safe.

As we enter our second month of hybrid and remote learning, we are excited to announce that additional activities are and will be safely happening on campus. They will provide opportunities for social connection, engagement, and physical activity for our students and follow all state and local health and safety guidelines.

These offerings include holding modified North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) fall, winter, and spring seasons for certain sports and resuming team workouts on a limited basis. Special events like Spirit Week and our fall pep rally also have been reimagined, thanks to the innovation and creativity of our students and educators. There are also planned engagement opportunities for our parents.

And, just in case you missed something, below is an update that not only provides a look back on the past two weeks of school but also to what’s ahead so you can stay informed and engaged.

We look forward to sharing all the great Gibbons news with YOU!

Gratefully,

Rachelle Garbarine
Director of Communications

Significant changes have been made to our traditional fall, winter, and spring seasons. The first sports to start competitive seasons will be cross country and volleyball in November. Here is the most recent 2020-21 NCHSAA Sports Calendar.

STUDENT ENGAGEMENT UPDATE

Students enjoying Senior Community Day.

Spirit Week took place Monday, September 14 through Friday, September 18, and culminated with our first-ever hybrid pep rally. Throughout this fun-filled week, students had the chance to engage in such activities as Teen Beach Tuesday and Movie Theatre Thursday. On both days, students also participated in Green machine races on the piazza during lunch periods. See the Spirit Week page for more details.

The pep rally was on Friday, September 18, from 2:05 p.m. to 2:55 p.m. It was live-streamed during advisory, enabling the Gibbons community to watch and participate in the activities, either on-campus or at home. Some elements of the rally also were live!

The first of our four planned Community Days for each grade was Wednesday, September 16, when we will welcome our Seniors on campus.  The goal of these days is to bring an entire class together at one time to foster a greater sense of community.

Senior Community Day, 8 a.m. to noon, featured Mass, prayerful reflection, yoga, games, Karaoke, and more.

The other Community Days are October 7 for freshmen, October 28 for sophomores, and November 11 for juniors.

Finally, read how our students are engaging in the spiritual life of our school through our Faith and Ministry Program in this Gibbons news post. And check out the new Mask Up video on the Return to Campus page.
