Each year Cardinal Gibbons students compete in the North Carolina Mock Trial Competition, sponsored by the North Carolina Academy of Trial Lawyers. The goal of our sponsoring organization is to promote “civic understanding, self-confidence, analytical reasoning, and communication skills vital for tomorrow’s leaders.” Students activate the roles of trial lawyers for complex civil and criminal cases, prepare opening and closing statements, design direct and cross-examinations of witnesses, and develop an advanced knowledge of the rules of evidence and trial procedure. Significant team preparation culminates in regional and state-wide competitions.
