Cardinal Gibbons is excited to host a summer Spanish language immersion program in Costa Rica
The Spanish Immersion Program in Costa Rica is specifically designed to:
- Improve Spanish Skills
- Gain cultural understanding
- Engage in community service
- Experience the beauty and adventure of Costa Rica
The four primary components of the experience are:
- Spanish classes
- Lodging with host families
- Service learning
- Adventure Travel
Itinerary & Travel Dates
June 2-16, 2022
Days 1-3: Explore the National Park Manuel Antonio and surrounding beaches
Days 3-10: Santo Domingo, Costa Rica - Host Family Stay, Spanish Classes, Service Learning
Days 11-13: Explore the La Fortuna and Arenal areas of Costa Rica
Projected Cost:
We partner with a company called Common Ground International. Common Ground International is the leader in integrated immersion programs. The trip costs around four thousand dollars.
Who Should Go?
This trip is open to rising Juniors, Sophomores and Freshmen. This trip is for the student that is ready to acquire Spanish language skill within an authentic setting. The student does not have to already have a lot of experience with Spanish language. Student will be placed in Spanish classes based on their current level. The student should have a desire to push themselves out of their comfort zone and immerse themselves in both the language and culture of Costa Rica. Students will primarily be speaking Spanish for the two weeks they are in Costa Rica. We will take a maximum of 25 students on this trip in 2022.
Registration and Key Dates:
April 19, 2021: Trip Information Packets Available in room 214
October 1: Student Interest Meeting - 3:15 p.m. Room 214
October 2-26: Trip Consent Form and Initial Registration Deposit of $75 accepted. Turn your form into Mrs. Damare in room 214.
October 16-November 1, 2021: Complete electronic registration and program deposit with Common Ground International. Registration link: https://commongroundinternational.com/store/immersion-trips/high-school-immersion-trip/ (select "Summer '22 Cardinal Gibbons Trip" from trip options)
November 12, 2021: Parent and Student Kick Off Meeting (time/place TBD)
November 30, 2021: Complete all Common Ground travel paperwork
